Minutes of Looking Glass Regional Fire Authority Meeting

January 16, 2008

6:00 p.m.

CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order at 6:00 p.m. with The Pledge of Allegiance.

ROLL CALL: Board Members Present: Clark, Crego, Morris, Hazen, and Adams. Mitchell-absent with notice.

PUBLIC COMMENT: None

CORRESPONDENCE: Clark stated that he received correspondence from Layton and Richardson-the auditors.

AGENDA APPROVAL: Motion by Hazen, seconded by Crego to approve the agenda as presented. Motion passed.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Motion by Crego, seconded by Hazen to approve the regular meeting minutes of December 19, 2007 as presented. Motion passed.

APPPROVAL OF BILLS: Motion by Adams, seconded by Morris to approve the bills as presented. Motion passed.

REPORTS:

Chief’s Report

Fabiano provided some preliminary reports for year end. He stated that the total runs for 2007 was 568. There were 499 in 2006. Fabiano showed the board a rescue tool- a hydraulic spreader for car doors, etc. It is about a $6,000.00 piece of equipment that was donated to the Authority by Alert Fire Equipment in Portland.

Chair’s Report

Financial Review-Clark states that about $34-35,000.00 will be distributed back to the townships.

Update negotiations with Firefighters/Paramedics-Clark stated that they will meet with the union negotiators in early February.

Supervisor’s Report on Township’s progress on Joint Agreement- Adams stated that the Joint Agreement is on Watertown Township’s agenda for January 21^st.

PENDING BUSINESS: None

NEW BUSINESS:

1. Election of Officers-Motion by Crego, seconded by Hazen that Adams be nominated for Chair of the Authority, Mitchell be nominated as Secretary, and Adams be nominated as Vice-Chair. Motion passed.

2. Approval to hire full time firefighter/paramedic-Fabiano would like to make a recommendation on hiring Krista VanHorn for the firefighter/paramedic position. Krista was hired part time back in August. She resides at 10210 Wacousta Rd and currently works for Jackson Community Ambulance. She graduated from LCC paramedic school in 2005, and graduated from LCC Firefighter program with the highest honors. Motion by Morris, seconded by Adams to approve hiring Krista VanHorn as a full time Firefighter/Paramedic as of February 3, 2008. Motion passed.

3. Approval of Michigan Fire Chief Winter Workshop-The workshop is $170.00 and accommodations are $92.00 per night. Motion by Crego, seconded by Hazen to pay for Chief Fabiano’s attendance and accommodations at the winter workshop. Motion passed.

DISCUSSION AND PUBLIC COMMENT-Patti Schaffer commented that they are getting low on checks and needs permission to order those, which Clark told her to do. She also stated that the Liability Building and Vehicle Insurance expired December 31, 2007 and can’t get a bill from Kevin Decker-the insurance rep. Fabiano stated that he did get a letter stating that they are insured and that the insurance company is waiting on the underwriters.
