Minutes of Board of Trustees Special Meeting

February 14, 2007

6:00 P.M.

Call to order:  The meeting was called to order at 6:00 P.M. with the Pledge of Allegiance.

Board Members Present:  Supervisor Adams, Clerk Husby, Treasurer Thelen, Trustees Maahs, Mitchell, Skerritt, and Weitzel.  Also present: Tubbs, Overton, and Andrea (Zeeb) Polverento

Public Comment:  none

Agenda Approval:  Motion by Thelen and seconded by Skerritt to approve the agenda as presented.  Motion carried

New Business: Discussion/action on hiring Planning and Zoning Administrator.  Ron

Overton introduced Andrea Zeeb (Polverento) and said that the Planning Commission is pleased to recommend Andrea Polverento for the position.  Andrea Polverento addressed the Board of Trustees to express her desire to get started.  Members asked a number of questions and provided comments:  

• Time commitment and how much the Planning Commission will depend on receiving irrefutable information
• Zoning administration; pending lawsuits, the Comprehensive Development Plan update
• Working with the Board of Trustees, the Planning Commission, and the Zoning Board of Appeals; the number of meetings required. 
• Experience related to community surveys; community development and planning programs; what she had gained from those experiences; education, experience with walkable communities, what she considered the three major challenges facing the rural township, and the definition of comprehensive planning.

Andrea responded that she is aware of the time commitment and is prepared to meet that commitment.  Her family is in the area and she plans to stay in this area. 

Motion by Weitzel and seconded by Mitchell that Andrea L. Zeeb (Polverento) be hired as the township planning director at the minimum wage rate of $40, 664.65 in accordance with the Board approved wage scale for non-union positions (Policy 1.4 Compensation Practices).  Motion carried

Motion by Weitzel and seconded by Maahs that her employment is effective February 14, 2007. 

Yes: Mitchell, Maahs, Adams, Husby, Skerritt, Weitzel

No:  Thelen with a comment

Motion carried

Thelen commented that it was unfair to require her to start work immediately.

Adams thanked Ron Overton for his work as zoning administrator.
